Greek Bathing Sponge (Spongia Officinalis)

Habitat: We can find it on rocky bottoms, down to 40 metres, and it enjoys areas of low light.

Shape: This sponge has no siliceous spicules, the skeleton consists entirely of sponging fibres, making it flexible. It has relatively few oscula which are raised from the surface and slightly crater-like.

Did you know: It is now relatively rare due to overcollecting.
