Habitat: Preference for rocky areas and wrecks from 20 metres down on the continental shelf.
Reproduction: Breeds April to June.
Behaviour: This coastal fish and hermaphrodite is female in its primal stages.
Size: Common: 20 - 60cm, maximum: 82cm.
Shape: Oval compressed body.
Colour: It has a rose tint to its sides though this colour is not generally seen by divers unless caught in the light of a torch. Due to light refraction in water it has an overall silvery appearance.
